For those that missed Digital Summit 2017, I thought I would share some highlights for your reading pleasure.
The hot topics of the two-day conference focused on creating micro moments and the power of Snapchat.
The day of customers navigating for what they need is over. They want to tell you and they want instant gratification. The rise of wearables demonstrates this. Consumers want to speak what they want and not have to memorize tasks or steps to get what they are seeking. The rise in this behavior is also apparent through the popularity of bots. Look at all the consumers who love their Amazon Echo and Google Home.
Bots foster conversation exchanges and deliver personalized meaningful experiences. Brands who can master the delivery of human elements through the creation of micro moments will win. Technology should amplify our hearts. Consumers are seeking a human friend in technology.
As explained by Steve Wozniak during his talk, he is waiting for an AI robot that knows everything about you and cares, it would be a best friend to a student in school.
Maybe the desire for this human element is also what is propelling Snapchat. The brands that win curate snaps that speak to their consumers just like they speak to their friends. Snapchat is a platform where Twitter meets YouTube. Product storytelling is essential to connect with fellow snappers. It is essential the content is tailored to the audience. For a great example check out Taco Bell.
The days of people saying Snapchat is only for teens and college students is over. Seventy-seven percent are above age 18, and 14% are above age 35. Remember the platform will only mature as the audience gets older. It was astonishing to me to hear that more people saw the sponsored lens content from Gatorade during the Super bowl on Snapchat than the number of actual people watching the game.
Whatever social platforms we are using, if executed correctly brands will reach customers. The one key takeaway from Digital Summit that resonated with me is that we need to remember the key word social, in Social Media….let’s foster the fun and live by Steve Wozniak’s Happiness Equation, H=S-F Happiness=Smiles-Frowns.
Keep Smiling and Be Happy!
